Shinnen Enkai (New Year's Banquet) & Shiranami Gonin Otoko

The Chamber welcomes the New Year traditionally on January 5th of every year by holding its annual Shinnen Enkai (New Year's Banquet) at the Manoa Grand Ballroom in the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii Building.

Included in the program is one of the most beloved traditions in the Chamber's history, the performance of the "Shiranami Gonin Otoko," which marked its 60th performance in 2007.  This short kabuki play, which goes back to 1947, recruits Chamber members and officers to become actors in a "kabuki" play.

47 Ronin Golf Challenge

There is no doubting the wisdom of the adage that some of the most enjoyable and productive forms of business networking takes place on the golf course.

Combining fundraising, fellowship, and networking, not to mention a lot of fun-filled golf and prizes, this golfing event is "tailor made for samurais".  A marathon day of golf, 47 holes, where a group of 47 golfers (Ronins) obtain pledges to raise funds for the Chamber.

How to Do Business in Japan Series

This series of seminars was put on by the International Business Development Committee during the 2006 fiscal year.  Their goal was to prepare HJCC members for the upcoming 25th Anniversary Business Mission and to also educate the public on “How to Do Business in Japan.”  This series also included a “survival Japanese” course taught by JAIMS instructors.

Samurai Classic Golf Tournament

2006 marked the resounding success of the 29th Annual Samurai Classic Golf Tournament on Thirsday, May 11, 2006 at the Pearl Country Club.  A full field of players raised funds for the Chamber while vying for prizes.  Fabulous prizes included a hole-in-one car courtesy of Tony Group and a chance at $10,000 among many other awards.  Mahalo to Central Pacific Bank for sponsoring this year’s putting contest!

A warm thank you to the underwriters, and sponsors whose generous support of this tournament helps to raise funds for HJCC’s programs and seminars throughout the year.  This year, in appreciation for their support, the Chamber presented each of the company representatives with a samurai statue from Iida’s as a memento.

Installation Banquet

While many organizations host installation banquets, the Chamber prides itself in executing its annual general membership meeting and ceremony with exceptional class and style.  In 2006, the banquet was held on Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.
